NBA Free Agents 2012: Bold Moves to Be Made by Potential Buyers

There has been a flurry of player movement in the past week, but teams will still be looking to snatch up the top talents remaining.

There has been no shortage of drama since July 1, with twists, turns and surprising moves hitting the news nearly every day.

Many of the top players are signed, but big names are still available.

Here are the four teams that will still be adding to their rosters.

Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks were supposed to the most active team in free agency this summer. What happened?

First, Dwight Howard decided to pick up his option and extend his contract for one season. Next, Deron Williams spurned his hometown-team to return to the Brooklyn Nets.

The Mavs’ top-two options were off the board, and they were further disappointed when the Los Angeles Lakers landed Steve Nash, and Jason Kidd ditched Dallas for the New York Knicks.

David Aldridge of NBA.com reported via Twitter that the Mavericks’ next move will be to look at the remaining available point guards.

They better hope that they can reel in one of these players as the options at point guard appear to be getting thinner every day.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers already added a marquee player in Steve Nash, but the team will continue to try and build a championship-caliber roster.

Any season that doesn’t put another banner in the rafters is considered a failure in L.A. The team will want to make sure it makes it farther than the second round this year.

The team’s next target is reportedly Nash’s former teammate Grant Hill. ESPN’s Marc Stein reported that the two-time MVP will try and get Hill into purple and gold for next season.

This would give the Lakers a solid core of veterans who will be focused and motivated to win a title.

New York Knicks

The Knicks are another team that do not appear ready to rest after making a bold move.

New York offered Jason Kidd a three-year, $9 million dollar deal, but are still looking to add another point guard, as noted by Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, via Twitter.

The Knicks will have to pay a premium to keep Lin if he signs the four-year, $30 million offer sheet from the Houston Rockets. Felton is an unrestricted free agent who played 54 games with the Knicks in 2010-11 before being sent to Denver as part of the Carmelo Anthony trade.

Either way, the Knicks will need someone to spell Kidd and will be grabbing another point guard this summer.

Houston Rockets

The Rockets were never able to get on the same page with Goran Dragic, who is now going to sign with the Phoenix Suns, and also traded away Kyle Lowry to the Toronto Raptors.

They are now in dire need of a point guard. Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld reported via Twitter that the team will meet with one of its former players, Aaron Brooks.

They must land either Brooks or Lin as they have a gaping hole in their roster right now.

Expect the team to make a move soon in order to fix the problem.
